I recently had a request as to whether you can use Linode to host an IRC server. I have not personally done so, so I decided to check into it. What I discovered was that there is absolutely no problem hosting an IRC server from your Linode. In fact according to the Linode forums many have done so. However, you do need to be aware that if you are hosting a large server that is getting repeated DDOS attacks they may ask you to leave - this goes for any VPS host out there as no one wants there networks being taken down.

A while back Linode added another data center as an option to its clients. I thought I would showcase a little of the info I found out about it:

• Linode picked this to provide better performance for non United States customers

So far it sounds like customers have greatly enjoyed this new option. I personally have not switched my site over to it since things have been running great for me so far, but here is what others are saying:

This site uses the Drupal CMS for everything you see. Along with this I host many other sites at Linode and all of them use Drupal for their backend.

Recently I checked to see just exactly what my Linode server was handling. On my largest site I have over 250,000 unique page views per month. Along with this I am using the Drupal Views, CCK, Stats, Contact, Vote, and many other modules. The exciting news is that this site can all be run from my Linode 360 account which only costs 19.95/month. This is the same or cheaper than many shared hosting accounts.

Today I launched this site. My plan is to point all my friends and people I meet online to this site whenever they ask me about where they should do there hosting.
